Express Recovery Features |
If you use Express Recovery, you NEEDN'T recover the password. Using this feature, you can REMOVE the password at all! For an additional fee (and time) we can recover the original password. Please see the notes below.
Express Recovery takes only a minute.
Express Recovery is subject to availability. Normally you should expect it available during regular business hours. If Express Recovery is not available at the moment, your document will be queued and recovered within 36 hours.
Password recovery is performed at our datacenter, so an Internet connection is required. However your document will NOT be sent over the Internet! See the privacy statement below.
If you have several password-protected files (even with exactly the same password), you have to process each file individually (because each password-protected Word/Excel document has a unique random signature that affects recovery process). You pay for password recovery on a per document basis.
Recovery service must be pre-paid. We cannot start the recovery process if you have no voucher on your account.

Original Password Recovery Service |
For an additional fee (and time) we can recover the original password. Original Password Recovery Service works as follows:
Submit one document (we recommend that you submit the documents that you need sooner first).
Your document will be decrypted (usually it takes just a minute; however, in rare cases that may take up to 36 hours).
Once your document is decrypted, we will start the recovery of the original password. Within the next 48 hours, we will send you the password (usually that takes 24 hours or less).
Please keep in mind that if your password is too long or strong, it is possible that the password we recover will differ from the original one. Nevertheless, it will match all documents protected with your original password. Such collisions normally happen only when your password is greater than 8 characters. Also, in some cases it is possible that we find several passwords (2-4), each one of which will match the original document, but only one of them will match the rest of documents protected with the same original password. Since we have only one document at our disposal (the one you have submitted), we are unable to determine, which password of what we have recovered is the right one. You can do that on your own by trying each of the passwords on the other documents.
Hint: Original Password Recovery Service takes 48 hours; if you need to recover several documents urgently, the quickest way to get that done would be to buy several Express Recovery Vouchers. You will spend just a minute on each document; however, that will cost a bit more.
Privacy issues |
The software has to pass a fragment of your Word or Excel document to our server to enable us to recover the document. We consider privacy issues very seriously and do our best to protect your privacy. Only a small part (about 50 bytes) of your Word or Excel document will be sent to the server. This part does NOT contain actual document contents or any other private information. All transferred information is encrypted using a strong encryption algorithm.
If for some reason you cannot (or do not want to) transmit your data over the Internet (for example, due to corporate security policy), you can use our special edition of Express Recovery - Express Recovery (Inhouse Edition), which allows to complete the recovery process on your computer.
Note on Office XP, 2003 |
You can use Express Recovery to recover Office XP or 2003 documents only if they were saved in the default (Office 97/2000 compatible) encryption mode. If the document has been saved in the advanced encryption mode, Express Recovery will not work.
